The company has its roots in 1932 when the Austrian physician Dr Anton Schaer and his Italian friend Gottfried started to manufacture children’s food in Gottfried’s factory in Bolzano, Italy. Years later, in 1977, a meeting with an expert in Celiac disease in children led to the idea of manufacturing gluten-free products. The concept was immediately successful. The company grew and expanded to other countries, opening its own research laboratory in 2003. Strategic acquisitions of gluten-free manufacturing sites and brands all over Europe, as well as North and South America, quickly followed.
The specialised team at Schaer continues to work on creative and innovative ideas to develop new recipes for the market that will satisfy consumers from the very first bite, gluten-intolerant or not.
